Announcing our 2020 Head Students

I am delighted to announce that our Head Students for 2020 are Ana Kerrigan and Iisa Salie.  These two outstanding students were presented with their badges at our first Principal’s assembly for the year.Hi! I’m Ana Kerrigan your Head Girl this year. I have a strong passion for Performing Arts, specifically Drama, so the school musical is always an important part of my year. I value creative outlets and love music, film and painting. However, I balance this out by playing on the 1st XI football team since year 10. As someone who has been involved in all aspects of Selwyn extra-curricular life, I would love to encourage students new and old to grasp the huge amount of opportunities offered to them and consequently watch the growth of Selwyn’s consistent success. Furthermore, advocating for mental health and balance of academics and extra-curricular activities is something I am passionate about and aim to incorporate into my head girl journey.Kia ora. Ko Iisa toku ingoa, he rangatira tauira ahau.My name is Iisa Salie and this year I am the Head Boy. I'm a member of our school Jazz band and the Performing Arts programme, an avid football player and an aspiring academic. This year I'm aiming to cultivate and expand the Maori culture within our school, whilst pushing myself and maintaining the vibrant atmosphere here at Selwyn. I also aim to take more risks in my role of Head Boy and work with all the students and staff to take Selwyn to new heights.

1st XI Football Team Make Selwyn History Yet Again

Congratulations to the boys and to their coach Andrew Speed and his deputy Andrew Box on making it to the Premier division for football in 2020.We are a co-ed school with around 1120 students which shows just how spectacular this achievement is!Well done to this team and indeed to every player who helped along the journey! We are incredibly proud of you all! ⚽

HAIR - A Selwyn Show Like No Other

‘Hair’ - the 2019 Selwyn College Musical opened last Saturday to resounding acclaim!  It was always going to be extremely challenging for the Directors to come up with a production that matched the excellence of last year’s show ‘Dusty’ which won the iTicket Award for the Most Outstanding Musical in 2018. However, they have succeeded completely! These words on an email from Director Duncan Allan reveal his huge generosity of spirit and appreciation for his team, his deep commitment to the learning and personal development of our wonderful students and hisremarkable passion for his craft.‘It's been a huge 10 weeks bringing this show back to the stage for a 2019 audience. The whole team has been fantastic. The students are remarkable - Rachel & I are tremendously proud of them.We are also tremendously impressed by the professionalism, creative innovation and maturity shown by Jack Barnard (Vocal Director and former Selwyn student) & Jarrod Waiomio (Vocal Coach and also a member of our alumni). Along with Kim Santerelli (Choreographer) & Kate Janes, we have a truly dynamic production team here. On top of this, the last two weeks since Christchurch, have really been a remarkable period of growth for these students. The brave and honest discussions we had on camp revealed a maturity and resilience we were all very impressed by. All of this insight, perception and wisdom was invested back in to the show. It really has become a remarkable, bold and life-changing piece of theatre’.Duncan Allan, Rachel Larcombe - our Amazing Musical Director - and the Selwyn ‘Hair’ Company – WE SALUTE YOU!
