Year 9 Dance

Aims to:
  • Explore and describe how dance is used for different purposes in a variety of cultures and contexts.
  • Apply the dance elements to extend personal movement skills and vocabularies and to explore the vocabularies of Dance
  • Combine and contrast the dance elements to express images, ideas, and feelings in dance, using a variety of choreographic processes.
  • Prepare and present dance, with an awareness of the performance context.
  • Describe and record how the purpose of selected dances is expressed through the movement.

Y9 Dance will give students a broad dance base in preparation for Y10 dance and Level 1 Dance NCEA. this course develops confidence to express ideas physically with your body, compose dance, explore, share and contribute. The course is largely practical. It  is based on the is based on New Zealand Curriculum and incorporates the four strands of the curriculum at Level 4:
  • Understanding Dance in context in Dance
  • Developing practical knowledge in Dance
  • Developing ideas in Dance
  • Communicating and interpreting in Dance

Year 10 Dance

Aims to:
  • Develop knowledge and skills in a range of dance techniques.
  • Develop abilities to create own movement ideas and dance sequence.
  • Develop skills in analysing, interpreting and responding to dance
  • Explore an understanding of dance in different cultures 

Year 10 dance follows on from Year 9 dance although it is not necessary to have taken 9 dance as a prerequisite to this course. This course  will give students a broad dance experience in preparation for Level 1 NCEA Dance which could lead to a path to L2/L3 NCEA dance. Dance is an approved subject for University Entrance.
